Wedding Guest EtiquetteSeptember 24, 2019
A wedding is often one of the most special events that occurs in someone’s life. It is the couple’s day to design and enjoy.¬†When it comes to wedding guest etiquette, people sometimes miss the mark. Follow our guide for tips on how to be a courteous guest.
You’ve received the wedding invitation. Now what? This invitation should tell you most of what you need to know to respect the couple’s wishes. First, make sure to respond to the RSVP whether or not you are attending. If the couple is thoughtful enough to invite you to be a part of their special day, the least you can do is let them know if you will be in attendance. Often, couples base many decisions on the number of guests attending. The guest count greatly affects budgeting, catering and more. The best practice is to send a reply as soon as you have an answer set in stone.
Additionally, the invitation typically states the dress code. It’s a given that only brides should wear white. Respect this tradition unless you are told otherwise. Whatever instructions you are given on dress, try your best to accommodate them. After all, this is the couple’s day to shine! Also, it’s likely that the invitation states whether or not you can invite a plus one. If the invitation calls for it, feel free to invite an additional guest.
We live in an age of technology and sometimes, because of this, we lose sight of living in the moment. Respect the couple’s wishes about the use of smart phones and personal photography on their wedding day. Often, a bride or groom may have a vision of how they want their wedding to be portrayed and shared. They may even opt for total privacy and not want their wedding shared on social media. Whatever the case, follow their lead.
