One of Our Favorite Ways to Spread Holiday Cheer
November 28, 2018Four Must-Try Christmas Cocktails
With Christmas less than a month away – 27 days, to be exact! – we imagine you’ve got nothing but the holidays on the brain. ‘Tis the season for holiday parties at Destin Bay House as well, and what holiday party is complete without a few seasonal cocktails? Here are four must-try Christmas cocktails that will add a little flair to any holiday party!
- Mulled Wine – While this is not technically a cocktail, it’s still a holiday staple that should be present at every shindig. Delicious, warm, and easy to prepare; what more could we ask for? As an added bonus, mulled wine can be made in a crockpot which is perfect for large groups. Simply gather a couple of bottles of red wine (one sweet and one dry), four cups apple cider, 1/2 cup of brandy, 1/4 cup honey, cinnamon sticks, two sliced oranges, eight whole cloves, and 12 black peppercorns, and let simmer on warm. Remove the cloves and peppercorns before serving and garnish with oranges and cinnamon sticks. Voila!
- Cranberry Old Fashioned – Put a festive twist on a timeless favorite this holiday season! Jazz up an Old Fashioned by making a cranberry simple syrup. In a saucepan, bring two cups of water, one cup of sugar, and one cup of fresh cranberries to a boil for 4-5 minutes. Strain with a fine mesh sieve and cool before serving. Garnish the glass with cranberries, an orange peel, and some rosemary.
- Holiday Sangria – Another slow cooker recipe means we can set it and forget it! In a crockpot, combine two bottles of dry light-bodied red wine, one cup brandy, one cup cranberry juice, one cup simple syrup, one sliced orange, one cup of cranberries, and five cinnamon sticks. Add some peppercorns in a sachet before cooking on high for one hour, then switch to low for up to five hours. Garnish with more cinnamon sticks and get ready to enjoy this warm holiday treat!
- Peppermint Martini – The best part of this recipe is the crushed candy canes around the rim! Prepare your glass first by rolling the edges in simple syrup (or peppermint syrup!) and crushed candy canes. Then add vanilla vodka, creme de cacao, half and half, and peppermint schnapps to a cocktail shaker with ice. Simply shake, strain, and sip!
